Gardening is peace.
Mom’s Corner is a vacant lot project started by members of the Observatory Hill community. Local mom and G-Tech Community Ambassador, Muffy Mendoza, began the project as a way to extend the peace she felt in her own garden out into her greater North Side community. She and her fellow neighbors and moms began reclaiming the lot at the corner of Perryview Avenue and Perrysville Avenue, with funds provided by G-Tech and the Sprout Fund, back in 2015. The plan for the lot is to create a bright spot in the community that acts as a place or peace, productivity and provision for local mothers and families. Eventually, Mom’s Corner hopes to the the host of gardening workshops, the source for small amounts of produce and a place of tranquility for any passers-by. So far, a pathway for dog walkers, bus stop benches, a Free Little Library and two flower beds have been built on Mom’s Corner.
Want to get involved? Great. Check out our calendar below to find out when you can come by our lot at Perryview Avenue and Perrysville Avenue and help out.
Today we will be working to complete our stone pathway and erect our food garden beds.
