blog Our Favorite Pictures from a Visit to the National Aviary

My family’s love affair with the National Aviary started some 10 years ago.  My then 2-year-old, who is now 13, used to walk through West Park and say “birdies, birdies,” when we passed the gates of the old condor exhibit at the aviary during spring, summer and fall walks in the park.  As he got older that interest only grew.  Now Jair can tell any stranger about the natural habitat, mating patterns and behaviors of any bird, fish or animal north, south, east or west.  That love of knowledge was sparked by our early visits to the Aviary when he was a little boy.  So, it was no surprise that in all of his 6′ teenager glory he still decided to come along with me and my two younger sons, 6 & 7, for another visit to the National Aviary.  On our visit we witnessed flamingos preening, a lorikeet feeding and the biggest bats I’ve ever seen hanging from a tree.  While I’m no professional photographer, my kids love to take pictures and I love helping them.  Here are their favorite pictures from a visit to the National Aviary in Pittsburgh
