blog #GoodMama Dionne Enjoys Motherhood One Moment at a Time

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][maxtitle type=”5″]Why are you a #GoodMama?[/maxtitle][vc_column_text]DionneFamilyI am a #GoodMama because I am doing my best to raise respectable, God fearing, productive members of society. Realizing that I’m not perfert and will make mistakes, all the while loving, learning, and growing together as a family.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][quote name=”Brown Mama Dionne” name_sub=”a fantastic mama” text=” Many times we think that we can do it all on our own…Omit the stress and ask for or accept the help. Doing so won’t revoke your “Superwoman“ status. “][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][maxtitle type=”5″]How do you feel about motherhood now? [/maxtitle][vc_column_text css_animation=”right-to-left”]

DionneFamily2When I first became a mom I had this ideal that everything had to be just right or I wasn’t mothering right. Now, 9 years and two children later, I’ve learned to take it one day at a time, sometimes one minute at a time. It’s okay if the dishes sit in the sink all week long, or the furniture hasn’t been dusted in months; the kids a loved, healthy, and usually happy and right now, at this very moment, is all that matters.

[/vc_column_text][maxtitle type=”5″]What advice would you give to a new mom? [/maxtitle][vc_column_text]Don’t be too proud to ask for or accept help. Many times we think that we can do it all on our own because we did it that way before we had children (at least I did). Omit the stress and ask for or accept the help. Doing so won’t revoke your “Superwoman” status; it makes it better.[/vc_column_text][maxtitle type=”5″]What misconceptions are there about Black mothers? [/maxtitle][vc_column_text]

America would be surprised to know that African American mothers CAN and DO succeed at being #GoodMamas!

[/vc_column_text][maxtitle type=”5″] What obstacles have you faced in motherhood? [/maxtitle][vc_column_text]

DionneFamily3There have been many obstacles during my motherhood journey. There were times that I thought that I would lose my mind along with my home and car. BUT God! Thats how I overcame and continue to overcome – with the help of God, my family , and friends. I wish that I could say that having faith is an easy task, but it far better than the alternative, which is giving up. Not easier, but better.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][maxtitle type=”4″]What is the #1 lesson motherhood taught you? [/maxtitle][vc_column_text]The number one lesson that I’ve learned from motherhood is, don’t sweat the small stuff. Having a nine year old and three month old will make you learn this lesson almost immediately.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][maxtitle type=”4″]What is your proudest mommy moment? [/maxtitle][vc_column_text]One of my proudest mommy moments is when my then three year old told me not to cry and that everything was going to be okay when his father and I separated and ultimately divorced.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_cta_button call_text=”Do you have a motherhood journey you want to shout to the world? What a great and inspiring story! It is such a pleasure to read the posts on this site and see women who are embracing life with all of its ups and downs and making it work for their good! It takes courage, strength and lots of love to be a mom of color and the women here seem to have it in buckets! The road to success is arduous, long and there are few welcoming rest stops along the way.. but persevere! The end is fantastic!
