They boys are soooo looking for ward to hearing Sons of Mystro! At last year’s EQT Children’s Festival the boys and I had so much fun at the viewing of Sunjata Kamalenya. At this point we’ve been attending the festival since they were 3 and 4-years-old. I was super surprised that now at 9 and 10 years-old, there are still performances that they enjoy. This year, we are over the moon about Sons of Mystro. Our homeschooling co-op introduced us to Black Violin in 2017 when they came to the Byham Theater. Ever since then, we’ve been beginning our mornings listening to their music and various other classical performers who are infusing Hip-Hop music into their music. When we heard that their prodigies, Sons of Mystro, will be one of the featured performances at this year’s EQT Children’s Festival, we got super excited.

They. Are. Dope. In addition to hip-hop, they are well known for doing reggae covers. My hubby is a Trini, so although we haven’t heard them do any Soca covers, we love the reggae ones. You see Sons of Mystro at the August Wilson Cultural Center on ,

Although Sons of Mystro are definitely the performers that my family is most excited to see, we are also happy to see such a variety of shows being offered at the EQT Children’s Festival this year.
If you’ve never been to the festival. Here are a few things you should know.
- The entire Cultural District (Penn Avenue section of Downtown, Pittsburgh) is blocked off with tons of kid’s activities and food trucks.
- Select theaters in the Cultural District offer a kid-friendly performances for an entire week
The festival runs from Thursday, May 16th to Sunday, May 19th. If you’re looking for some high-flying, super active fun, check out Air Play. My boys typically love this type of show, it is constant action. Check out this video.
Flying umbrellas, larger-than-life balloons, giant kites floating over the audience, and the biggest snow glove you’ve ever seen will make you gasp in wonder and laugh until it hurts. Air Play is a circus-style adventure of two siblings journeying through a surreal world, transforming ordinary objects into uncommon beauty. Air Play will be at the Byham Theater from Friday, May 17th to Sunday, May 19th at various times. Check out the schedule here.
Last, but not least, for all my mamas with toddlers and youngins, you won’t want to miss Emily Brown and The Thing. It’s all about a little kid struggling to go to sleep. (Don’t we all know that story..lol) Since there’s no sleep in sight, Emily sets off on a journey to find The Thing that’s keeping her awake.
