The #GoodMama campaign celebrates the beauty of Black motherhood. We highlight Black moms in the Pittsburgh region who are loving on their babies, holding down their households and living a family first lifestyle. Our next mom, Ms. Maureen is the mother of one beautiful baby girl (who I’ve had the honor of meeting on several occasions and she’s such a sweetie pie) and the wife of a dedicated husband. I met Maureen about three years ago and I love seeing pictures of her enjoying her family on Facebook. Here’s her #GoodMama journey.
Maureen, what makes you a #GoodMama?
I put my family first to make sure they have the tools to succeed.?How have your feelings about motherhood changed since giving birth?
I was really scared that I wasn’t good enough and even now sometimes I have doubts. But I have a great support system and faith in God to keep me going. What advice would you give to new moms?
Be patient and not so hard on your selfHave you faced obstacles? How have you overcome them in your mothering journey?
Yes definitely. I was postpartum, but with my husband and great friends and family and can’t forget the almighty my God [I got passed it]. Even now I get frustrated with my child as she gets older with her intelligence and curiosity butWhy is good mothering essential to the Black community?
Because we are raising our children to be adults and to continue to succeed to make sure we live the most of life that there is to offer. They are our next officers, teachers, government, legislature’s, etc. What is your number 1 piece of advice to other moms?
Patience is the key to keeping your sanity thru it all.
